As fire bans continue to be posted throughout the province, the government has taken the same steps to enforce a ban in the western corner of the province.

The Ministry of Environment, with the help from the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport, have now placed a fire ban on all open fires and fireworks for provincial Crown land, provincial parks, and recreational sites in west central and southwest regions of Saskatchewan.

Due to extreme fire hazards which exist, some roads and campgrounds may even be closed. Residents are asked to call the park in advance to confirm conditions before visiting a provincial park or recreation site.

The ban will affect the area contained within the boundary below:

The following provincial parks and recreation sites are affected by this ban:

  • Besant Recreation Site
  • Buffalo Pound Provincial Park, Buffalo Pound Lake Causeway Recreation Site, andd Buffalo Pound Lake Loney's Point Recreation Site
  • Coldwell Park Recreation Site
  • Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park (Centre and West blocks) and Cypress Lake Recreation Site
  • Danielson Provincial Park
  • Douglas Provincial Park
  • Elbow Harbour Recreation Site
  • Lovering Lake Recreation Site
  • Riverhurst Ferry Recreation Site
  • Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park
  • Secretan Recreation Site
  • St. Victor Petroglyphs Provincial Park
  • Wood Mountain Post Provincial Park

More fire ban news: Fire bans in effect for Kindersley and nearby municipalities

Units which are not affected during this particular fire ban and are accepted for cooking and heating purposes only include:

  • self-contained heating devices
  • pressurized stoves
  • gas barbecues
  • propane firepits
  • charcoal briquettes used in an approved firebox

The fire ban is effective immediately and will stay in place until conditions improve and the Ministry of Environment rescinds the order.

Municipalities are responsible for their own fire bans and are seperate from this ban issued by the provincial government. Contact your local government in regards to any possible bans posted in your community/area.
