Maple Creek recently held a red-carpet premiere to promote the movie that was filmed in the town and surrounding area in March, A Cowboy Christmas.

The first-ever showing of the film sold out and brought in residents along with movie crew and cast members, all dressed in fancy cowboy and cowgirl attire. Many of Maple Creek’s residents were encouraged to participate in the filming as extras, and many of the premiere attendees were excited to see themselves in the medium.

Resident Carmen Drapeau was dubbed “The Maple Creek Fixer” amid filming and helped organize this event.

“They were thrilled about it,” stated Drapeau. “When they were showing it, you could hear people saying, ‘That’s me over there!’, and pointing and laughing. I think that was really exciting.”

Beyond giving locals their brief introduction on the silver screen, the movie also showcased Maple Creek’s small business scene.

“It's establishing a visual identity of the community,” Explained Drapeau. “In terms of tourism, what people will see is what there is. They actually do have a Cowtown Christmas. The storefronts all look like that. It’s authentic.”

Hill Country Clothing, The Daily Grind, Rafter R Brewing, and other local businesses were mentioned or shown in the movie. Drapeau mentioned the final credits of the movie rolled for quite a while, as almost everyone who volunteered was credited.
