Brand new football season is here, and it will be a brand new schedule with brand new teams for the Macklin Sabres who are making the change from the 2A Conference down to 1A due to lack of numbers.

Macklin has recently played within the 1A Conference approximately three years ago, but moved up to the 2A Conference in the last two seasons. They will be joined by the defending Provincial Championship team from Plenty, Kerrobert and Eatonia where they will face all of the teams twice in the schedule.

Assistant coach of the Sabres, Don Golden, talked about the difficulty of the 1A Conference going into the 2017 season.

"Plenty has always been traditionally strong in the conference, Kerrobert only lost a single grade 12 player from last season so they will be very strong going into this season. The last time we played Eatonia in the conference, they defeated us so there's definitely some challenges."

Macklin finished last season right around the .500 mark and feel like they have a real chance to finish near the top of the standings this year.

The Sabres will start their season in Kerrobert on the 8th of September, and have their home opener on the third week of the season when they host Eatonia.
