Provincial volleyball was in full force this past weekend for girls in the province. One West Central team had a very successful weekend taking the provincial championship in 2A. The Macklin Sabres girls volleyball team took home the provincial title with 2 sets to nothing win over Rocanville on Saturday to win the championship. Macklin had a very good weekend overall, not losing a game in pool play, going 4-0. They took that momentum into the playoffs with a 2 sets to 0 win in the quarterfinals against host Foam Lake. They moved on to the semifinals and played Wakaw and once again won in straight sets 2-0 to make it to the finals against Rocanville where they won in straight sets to take the title.

In other provincial volleyball action the Unity girls team was in action as well in Assiniboia for the 3A provincial championship. The Unity girls got off to a great start and finished the round robin portion of the schedule with a 4-0 mark to head into the playoffs. They won their quarterfinals match 2 sets to none over La Loche and were up against Lanigan in the semifinals. That’s where the tournament for the girls came to an abrupt end. They lost 2 sets to zero and that set up a 3rd place playoff against Kipling. Unfortunately for Unity they could not win the playoff as they were beat 2-0 to finish off their weekend, but still managed to finish 4th in the province. The winner of the tournament was Oxbow as they defeated Lanigan 2 sets to 1 to take the title.

And in 1A provincial volleyball the Leader high school girls were in Muenster to play the provincial championships. The girls made the playoffs after defeating Chief Paskwa, Fox Valley, and Langham in pool play. Their only blemish was a 2 sets to 1 loss to LeRoy. In the playoffs they faced Rose Valley and lost in straight sets to end their tournament. Rose Valley ended up winning the provincial championship over LeRoy 2 sets to 1.
