Multiple west central swimmers are getting ready to compete at provincials this weekend after a busy 2019 season. Between three local swim clubs including Biggar, Rosetown and Kindersley, 26 athletes have earned themselves a place in the final meet of the season.

The provincials host team, the Rosetown Royals Speed Swim Team, have collected numerous medals over the fast and busy season. Of the team’s 17 swimmers, 15 qualified for a chance to compete at provincials.

Trevor Scott with the Rosetown Royals stated, “This year should add a little more motivation for our swimmers as Provincials is hosted by the Rosetown Royals. As well they have had some input in the design of our medals being handed out this this year.”

The Biggar Barracudas will be bringing seven swimmers to provincials after an impressive season as well. Kris Doering, long time coach for the Barracudas, said her team worked hard and she is proud of everything they accomplished.

The Barracudas that will be attending provincials include, Cody Doering, Abe Genis, Jayden Dowson, Aiden Fecht, Gillian Massie, Katelyn Fecht and Emma Genis.

This year also marked the resurrection of the Kinderlsey Swim Team, now officially called the Kindersley Surge.

Coach, Leigh-Anne Gutenberg, said it was great to be back and said the team had an impressive first year. She said the team despite what may have been perceived by some as obstacles, including less practice days and some first-time swimmers, all four of her competitive swimmers qualified and will be attending provincials tomorrow.

Those athletes include Leigh-Anne’s son, Seth Gutenberg, along with Isabel Douglas, Jayden Holland, and Abby Radies-Cowie.

The provincial meet will get underway tomorrow from Rosetown and Trevor Scott with the Rosetown Royals stated previously that the team has been working on a new medal design that will be officially unveiled tomorrow morning.
