The Kindersley Kobras Sr. Boys basketball "A" team ended 2023 on a winning note. The team came out on top in Delisle this past weekend, and won't be back on the hardwood until after the Christmas break.

Head coach Jason Hankewich gave a breakdown of the action.

"Tournament was great. We played RJC first, beat them by like 40 points. Then we ended up playing Rosetown, started out close, but we ended up pulling away, and I think we beat them by like 15-20 points there," detailed the coach. "LCBI was our final game. We had lost to them in Unity, just due to some unlucky breaks, and came back and showed them what we were really like." said Hankewich as another big win closed out the tournament.

Coaching the team for years now, Hankewich likes what he has in this year's Kobras.

"The boys performed really well, did amazing. I am super happy, this year is going to be a good year I think."

The Kobras have tournaments in Biggar and Maple Creek coming up after the break. Weekends will be busy to start 2024.

"I think we have about four or five more tournaments left to do. As long as things stay the way they are, we should be able to go on a run this year. It should be great."

The team has at least four seniors, but Hankewich also wanted to credit some of the younger players for the Kobras early success.

"One Grade 9, and a couple Grade 10's that are showing a lot of potential." said an eager Hankewich on the mix of talent.

Any shots the players can get up over Christmas would be beneficial towards a big second half of the season. The Kobras have their eyes on the prize this year, and Hankewich shared their home tournament in Kindersley is tentatively scheduled for early March.
