The Kindersley Municipal Election 2016 results were made official the morning of Thursday, October 27th.

Rod Perkins won the race for Kindersley mayor. Candidates Elyse Moss, Ken Francis, Randy Ervine, Dean Galbraith, Shaun Henry, and Gary Becker collected the most votes to be named councilors of Kindersley Town Council.

The only thing left to make their victories official was the official swearing in ceremony.

Town administration held the ceremony Friday morning at the Kindersley Administration Office. The election winners, administration staff, media, and public attended the event as the new mayor and six councilors read their oaths for their four-year term in the Council Chambers . The event was streamed live on the town's website as well and is available for replay.

Shaun Henry, who served as councilor and acting mayor on the last town council, is looking forward to working alongside the new members. "The first three to six months is going to be a big learning curve, and there will be lots of information to take in," said Henry. "There is a lot of smart business people that have been elected."

Elyse Moss also shared her thoughts on her fellow councilors, and is feeling optimistic about the next four years ahead. "I had an opportunity to talk to every one of them and I think it's going to be a really good team," said Moss. "We've got a diverse group and good perspectives coming to the table."

Moss was involved in a tie for votes in the election as well, a unique situation which rarely occurs during the voting process. "Before they confirmed the numbers, I had done a tally and I bursted out laughing going 'How does this happen?'," explained Moss. "It was an intense 12 hours of waiting to find out."

Of course, Moss and candidate Rob Cote were the two councilors tied with the sixth most votes at 598. She won the decision when the mediator chose her name from a recepticle containing both the candidates hidden names on seperate papers. The procedure is marked in an act for the town's election process.

The first official meeting for the new council will take place on Monday, November 14th at 7:00 PM.
