Here in west central we have been enjoying a milder than seasonal winter, but will we get a deep cold at all before spring?

Terri Lang, Meteorologist with Environment Canada said there is no solid agreement on the answer.

"Not all weather models agree that we're going back to average," she explained. "Some models indicate maybe we're making our way back towards the 10-day period, but not all models agree with that, so it's been an odd winter this way, and trying to sort of figure out what Mother Nature is trying to, it's tough."

Even in the best of times, predicting the weather further ahead than 10 days can prove futile.

"We look at a number of long-range models. The European model, Canadian model, American model, and not all of them agree of what's going to happen towards the end of the period," she noted. "So, maybe trying to get warmer, or maybe staying in the colder air, but not that really, really deep cold that we expect for this time of year."

Lang said she's not sure if there is a downside to not having that really, really cold weather.

"Maybe there are some experts who know that," she said. "The thing that we really need particularly across southeastern Saskatchewan is moisture. That's one thing that's been lacking. And when we get into a cold pattern like this, we don't get a lot of moisture with it. So that's the downside of getting into the colder air is the moisture side of things."
