Between the 'Thunder on the Prairies' hockey tournament in Kindersley, and Hockey Saskatchewan 'Female Festivals' in Elrose, the weekend of November 3-5 around west-central Saskatchewan is set to be a busy one at the rink.

The Western Prairie Female Hockey program announced their home tournament back in July, and the registration deadline for teams just passed on August 15. It will be a joint tournament between the host U13 and U15 AA Western Prairie AA teams, featuring 16 total entrants.

Teams will get four games each in what should turn out to be a great early-season tournament.

Perhaps a few hockey families will be making the trip down Highway 4 to Elrose that same weekend.

For U9 and U11 aged female hockey players, Hockey Saskatchewan will be holding its second of five 'Female Festivals' in the West Central community. Read more about Hockey Saskatchewan's goals for the program here, as it aligns with with Hockey Canada’s Long-Term Player Development model.

Female Festival's will feature two ice sessions each Saturday and Sunday, and participants will receive a Female Festival jersey and t-shirt. The two day camp will cost $125 each player.

Hockey season should be picking up steam as soon as we get into September.
