Biggar RCMP report a fatal motor vehicle collision between a pickup truck and a Canadian Pacific Railway train.

The collision occured in the Rural Municipality of Rosemount at around 12 this morning.  An Investigation determined a black Chevrolet pickup truck was east bound on Grid 656 when it struck a empty grain hopper car of the north bound CPR train.  A sensor on the train unit identified a problem with a car, causing the train to stop after it had cleared the intersection. 

The rail crossing is on level road and marked with unlighted posts bearing cross arms.  Weather at the time of the collision was very thick dense fog, and at times with zero visibility.

The driver of the pickup, a 21 year old male from Wilkie, was pronounced dead at the scene.  A 22 year old male passenger from the Sonningdale district was transported to Biggar Hospital and then to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon with undetermined injuries.  Crew from the CPR train were not injured.

A autopsy has been ordered, the file remains under investigation pending autopsy, toxicology and Collision Analyst reports.
At the request of the families, names of the deceased and injured are not being released.
