The Kindersley town office have officially closed the nominations window for the 2016 Kindersley Election.

Nominations were being accepted by the Kindersley town administration starting on August 31st. There are two candidates running for mayor this year, and twelve running for a position as councillor.

Tom Morris and Rodney Perkins are the candidates running for mayor of Kindersley. Morris has been serving as the president of the Kindersley Chamber of Commerce, and Perkins is an accountant in Kindersley.

Twelve residents have added their name in the mix as hopefuls for being elected a Kindersley town councillor including current Acting Mayor Shaun Henry.

Henry is the only current member of council running as a candidate once again. Deputy Mayor Curtis Sackville along with councillors Lorne Janzen, Bob McTaggart, Vaughn Biberdorf, and Jim Schmidt will not run.

The Kindersley municipal election is scheduled for Wednesday, October 26th, 2016. Election day will have polls placed at the Elizabeth School gymnasium from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Advance polls will be on October 13th for those looking to place their vote ahead of time. They will run from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Kindersley town office.

Eligible voters must:

  • At least 18 years of age on election day
  • A Canadian citizen
  • A resident of Saskatchewan for at least six consecutive months immediately preceding election day and either be: a resident of Kindersley or at least three consecutive months immediately preceding election day OR be an owner of assessable land for at least three consecutive months immediately preceding election day.

Voters will be allowed to select one candidate for the position of mayor, and only six candidates for councillors.
