The Canadian Cowboys Association recently showed the Kindersley Rodeo Committee some love. Through social media as part of their volunteer week celebrations, president Sam Hawken received this year's recognition for "Committee Member of the Year".

"Each year the Canadian Cowboys Association highlights one deserving individual as our 'Committee Member of the Year'. This week we are celebrated Volunteer Week and to finish it off we’d like to spotlight our 2023 Committee Member of the Year Sam Hawken of the Kindersley Rodeo Committee!"

As the current rodeo president, Hawken and his team look forward to creating a stellar event each and every year for local rodeo fans, and the competitors who come from far and wide. Led by Hawken, the committee made a generous decision in 2023 that led to the honour being bestowed.

"Dedicated to putting on the best rodeo possible and the respect of the Cowboys & Cowgirls, Sam and the Kindersley Committee added more money to each and every event last year." the post shared online. "Quick to treat everyone equal, fair and lend a hand where ever needed that’s why we’re glad to name Sam Hawken as our 2023 Committee Member of the Year!"

Outside of his 12 years with the local rodeo committee, Hawken is very familiar with the CCA. Hawken helped his father out with Team Roping in the 1980's, working with a few stock contractors in the process.

"A true cowboy through and through, his favourite event to watch has always been the Saddle Bronc Riding." the post added. "We thank not only Sam for his years of dedication to the CCA ,but all of communities, committees and volunteers past, present and future for 61 years of service!"

Hawken and the rest of the rodeo committee will surely find some time to celebrate. It will have to be soon, ahead of all-hands being on deck for the 2024 Kindersley Rodeo running May 30-June 1.
