On October 23, 2021, Outlook conservation officers received information regarding a bull moose that had been shot and left, approximately 3.5 miles SW of Strongfield, SK. Officers attended and found that a bull moose had been killed and partially field dressed in a field within 200 meters of an occupied dwelling. The moose was then dragged over 600 meters by a vehicle to a nearby slough, where the it was left to waste.

It is suspected that this unlawful activity occurred on October 22, 2021

If you have information related to this advisory, please call your local Conservation Officer or the Saskatchewan Turn In Poachers & Polluters line at 1-800-667-7561 or #5555 from a SaskTel Cell phone.

West Central Online reached out to conservation officer Sgt. Corey Loetz about the incident. He said reports of poaching remain around average, but he encourages people to report poaching in the province by calling the line above.

“For this year it's been actually fairly good. Unfortunately, this is something that happens more often than it should. In this instance, there was a waste of game incident where that animal is no longer part of our resource, it's now wasted. The meat is wasted and for whatever reason, the suspects in this case just chose to leave it.  As a whole, this year has been about average, I would say, but again, we're encouraging the public to help us out any time they can, by calling the turn in poachers and polluters line.”

Loetz then talked about the busy hunting season which has already began in some parts of the province, including west central.

“Birds are starting to show up. This is typically late, usually around Thanksgiving those migratory birds start to show up so, hunters that were here earlier are probably a little bit disappointed, but the ones that are here now are definitely seeing a larger migration. And currently we have a white tail muzzleloader season ongoing. The draw hunters for mule deer will be starting here in November 1st, so it's a busy season for everyone.”
