Earlier this week in the House of Commons, the opposition created a motion regarding federal COVID-19 mandates and restrictions. The motion cited that given many provinces are lifting COVID-19 restrictions, and federal health figure Dr. Theresa Tam has even said all existing public health measures need to be "re-evaluated" for the sake of "normalcy", the House call on the government to table a plan for the lifting of all federal mandates and restrictions, and to table that plan by February 28, 2022.

The motion was eventually defeated 185-151, with unanimous votes in favour from the Conservatives and Bloc Quebecois, and the majority of votes against coming from each the NDP, Green Party, one Independent member, and then mostly from the Liberal Party of Canada; though the party's vote was not unanimous with one member voting against his party in favour of the motion.

Each of the west central regions three MP's in Cypress Hills—Grasslands Jeremy Patzer (Kindersley, Leader), Carlton Trail—Eagle Creek Kelly Block (Rosetown, Biggar), and Battlefords—Lloydminster Rosemarie Falk (Kerrobert, Unity) were included in the Conservative vote.

Patzer provided comments yesterday on other strategies the government could have used to find a solution to the current problem across Canada other than invoking the Emergencies Act for the first time, and shortly after, West Central Online reached out to another local member in Falk for her opinion on the Houses' recent vote decision to stay on the current course with mandates and restrictions.

Falk provided the following comment:

“Canadians have sacrificed so much over the past two years and clearly want their lives back. They cannot be expected to live with mandates and restrictions indefinitely.

Conservatives put forward a reasonable motion calling on the Trudeau Government to table a plan by the end of the month to lift all federal mandates and restrictions. Shamefully, with the support of the NDP, the Liberals rejected our Conservative motion.

In doing so, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has chosen to again divide Canadians instead of acting to resolve the increasing polarization in our country.”

Falk has represented the riding of Battlefords—Lloydminster in the House of Commons of Canada since a by-election victory in 2017.
