A fire that had people pulling over on the side of the road to watch and that engaged fire crews for over nine hours left remained isolated, leaving staff and surroundings untouched.

Jason Skinner, CEO of North West Terminals, agreed when the statement, "of course you never want this to happen, but if it had to, it happened the best way possible," was made, stating that although the fire was difficult to extinquish, it was contained to the grain dryer where it started and no other equipment was affected and everyone on site was able to evacuate without injury.

Fire crews were called to the fire at 7:15 a.m. and were on scene until shortly after 4:30 p.m., according to Leroy Timmermans, Unity Fire Chief, making it for a long day of fighting fire for the volunteer fire department. As with any fire, the official cause has not been released until the investigation is complete, however, Skinner said the dryer was new and they have been drying grain for a couple months already. He added that although volume has been higher, earlier in the season, they've used the dryer as they always have and there were no changes made the day the fire ignited.

Skinner said that they will wait to see what the Fire Chief deems as the cause, but as of the next day they were back to operations as per usual with the exception of the drain dryer, Something producers have had to rely on more so than years previous due to the moisture since late September.
