As we make our way through fall and the year starts to wind down, so does the duration of the 2018 Saskatchewanderer. Kevin Dunn has been the man behind the posts for the entire year, documenting his trips around the province on social media.

Dunn was born and raised in Saskatoon, SK., and left his job to embark on a new path of travel blogging when he was offered the Wanderer position with the government of Saskatachewan.

Although he said there was a lot of learning to be done along the way, the position encouraged him to tap into his own creativity and showcase the province in his own way. Dunn excelled in the position, capturing inquisitive shots from the use of a drone across our prairie province.

He recanted various stories of how residents along his journey would stop and say hi or invite him in just to visit, “showing the true nature and kindness of Saskatchewan people,” said Dunn. He added that besides the comrade among the people, his favourite parts included finding little niche spots that likely not many people knew about and giving them the spotlight through his social media posts.

Often, he said, he would receive messages or comments from those who used to live in Saskatchewan, or those who have never visited the province, proclaiming how beautiful the province is and his posts sparked an interest for planning a trip to the province.

Dunn’s time as the wanderer will be coming to a close at the end of the year and he said he has a few spots left to hit. Through November and December, he will be making his way from Lloydminster, down through Kindersley, Leader, Swift Current and Cypress County before trailing back east.

With the hectic schedule of the position, Dunn said he will likely take some time to reflect on the year while mulling over different opportunities as he plans his future.

He did have some advice for those who are interested in applying for the 2019 Saskatachewander, “just be yourself, don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through your posts, connect with the people of Saskatchewan, have fun and be authentic,” said Dunn.

The Saskatchewanderer has been said to be a must follow for many Saskatchewan residents and tourists, between various social media platforms, the wanderer has more than 80,000 fans and followers.
