With record hot temperatures expected in parts of the region this week, it's not hard to believe that we set a new record for summer power demand in the province.

The record was hit just before 6 pm last Thursday, with SaskPower reporting the province set a new summer power use record at 3,250 Megawatts.

The new record is 50MW higher than the old one, which is enough to power 50,000 houses according to a statement from the Crown corporation.

Even with the extreme heat, the summer power demand record is still below the winter power demand record of 3,792 Megawatts.

With more extreme heat on the way in the coming days, SaskPower said it's possible the record could be broken again.
