A recent donation to the West Central Crisis Centre will act to fund programs and projects to further assist those in need of the Centre’s services.

The West Central Crisis Centre is a non-profit organization that has helped changed the lives of thousands of people for over 30 years. The Centre has serves not only Kindersley, but the entire west central region of Saskatchewan and helps both individuals and families facing various life problems.

According to Statistics Canada, 7.4 per cent of people reported fair or poor mental health, while 19.6 per cent of people reported perceiving their life as moderate to extremely stressful. There are a variety of situations and circumstances that can lead to perceived feelings of hopelessness or even fear, the West Central Crisis Centre focuses their efforts to empower people and help find solutions to the issues that are plaguing them.

As a non-profit, the Centre relies on outside donations and funding to be able to provide residents with the help they need and deserve, including a new project aimed at helping women and children affected by domestic violence.

Misty Leismeister, outreach manager at the Centre, said the funding they receive will go towards programs and services they offer, including making sure the Centre and staff are equipped with what they need in order to give their clients the best possible service.

On Wednesday, Leismeister accepted a cheque on behalf of the Centre from the Kindersley and District Co-op Fuel Store, for just over $2,600. She said the Centre would like to be able to put that money towards not only the programs but a new womens shelter they are working on opening. The shelter will provide a safe place for women of any age, and children, to go as they receive help to remove themselves from potentially violent life circumstances.

The total donated was in combined efforts from the Kindersley and Eatonia Co-op’s who donated 10 cents for every litre of gas sold during the day on September 19, 2018 as a part of the Fuel Good Day campaign.
