Municipalities and other eligible groups can now apply for funding for potential infrastructure projects through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP).

As announced by Premier Scott Moe at the recent Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities Convention, under ICIP the Government of Saskatchewan has secured $896 million in federal funding over the next 10 years to support eligible infrastructure projects.

The almost $900 million will be divided between four categories of projects and include:
• Public Transit - $307.9 million
• Green Initiatives - $416.3 million
• Community, Culture and Recreation - $56.2 million
• Rural and Northern Communities - $115.9 million

Only municipalities, non-profit organizations, private sector bodies and Indigenous communities and organizations are eligible to apply for the program.

The funding will be a joint effort between the federal and provincial governments and contributions will vary depending on applicant type:
• Municipal
◦ Federal: at least 40 per cent
◦ Provincial: up to 33.33 per cent
• Non-Profit
◦ Federal: up to 40 per cent
◦ Provincial: up to 33.33 per cent
• Private Sector (For Profit)
◦ Federal: up to 25 per cent
◦ Provincial: no contribution
• Indigenous

The application process is broken down into two parts with the first open for submissions now. Municipalities and eligible groups will need to submit an expression of interest for their project. The second step will not happen until later in the year, however, will require interested parties to submit a detailed project application.

The initial intake is now open and the program will accept applications up until April 30, 2019.
