Kindersley residents have experienced another snowfall creating slippery conditions around town prompting drivers to adjust their driving for the conditions and to be aware of the Town’s snow removal process.

Some drivers expressed frustrations with the icy residential streets earlier yesterday as the snow continued to come down. Kim Vogel, director of transportation and environmental services, stated that it is not an effective time to sand as the snow is still coming down and that once the snowfall lightened later in the day, sanders and graders were out to combat the slippery conditions, even when it was already starting to melt.

With the winter season only just beginning, snow removal will be a frequent occurrence, however, the Town has bylaws in place stating their level of service for both snow clearing and sanding including working in a priority sequence.

The snow clearing map can be found on the Town of Kindersley’s website, but the list below outlines the top priority areas to be cleared within the town:

Emergency Routes

1st Open/Cleared

School Zones & Main Bus Routes

Downtown

Lower Travel Areas

The bylaw also explains that regular snow clearing will be scheduled in coordination with the residential waste and recycling curbside collection program.

The Town outlines that outside of priority one and two routes, their secondary goal is to have the other priority routes plowed within three working days, whereas, non-priority streets are only plowed if four inches of snow accumulation is present after completing the priority routes.

Drivers are asked to exercise a level of caution when setting out in your vehicle during the winter months whether graders or sanders have been out or not, as winter conditions can be unpredictable and icy roads aren’t always visible.
