The village of Strongfield have had lots to deal with so far this summer after their beloved curling rink was violently damaged during a major wind storm that took place earlier in July. Members of the village are in the process of deciding whether or not it is a good idea to rebuild the building, and there seems to be two sides of the debate.

Late in August, there was a public meeting held that witnessed 30 people attend to discuss matters about the financial situation and where the town can place money from the insurance companies. The facility was insured $100,000 and the village was set to receive an additional $25,000 on top of that to come with a total of $125,000. The six-figure number would cover the building and electrical fees.

After having estimates done to rebuild it, it would only cost approximately $105,000 to rebuild the entire curling rink, meaning that no fundraising of any kind would have to be done in order to rebuild.

In Strongfield, the curling rink had always been a popular spot for activities within the town limits, and that records show that through the years of events that the curling rink basically paid for itself.

However, even with the majority of voters agreeing with the rebuild, there was some hesitation from some voters regarding the future of the curling rink. There were members believing that the village would have a hard time paying for itself down the road in 10 years, particularly in a village of only 40 people.

Council is expected to make their decision on the curling rink soon, and will begin cleaning up the fenced-off curling rink debris immediately.
