The town of Eston welcomed a new recreation director to the team at the beginning of the month to help maintain and grow the town’s sports culture.

Bret Howe claimed the position starting October 1, 2018 and has jumped in with both feet and already keeping busy with hockey and curling within the town.

Howe comes to the position well prepared as she brings many years of both managerial and sports knowledge. Playing sports her whole life including soccer and hockey at an elite level while she attended the University of Calgary for management. Howe said that she has a passion for sports and recreation and looks to bring her expertise from all areas of her background to her new position.

“Ultimately my goal is to get as many kids as possible involved with recreation and sports department, ultimately they are the ones who grow our base in recreation and sport and help with the town,” said Howe.

Her husband, Brett, is from the west central region, and together they made the decision to move back to her husbands hometown after Brett left the oil industry and wanted to fulfill his desire to farm.

Howe said she is excited to be in the new position and hopes to build off the towns already active sports culture.
