The delay in Enbridge’s U.S. Line 3 Replacement project announced earlier this month, is said not to disrupt remaining work to be done on the project in Kindersley or anywhere north of the border.

Although approximately 90 per cent of the project on the Canadian side has been finished as of March, including the stretch through Kindersley, crews were set to return this summer to finish up the project.

Tracie Kenyon, spokesperson for Enbridge, stated, “The construction for the Canadian portion of the Line 3 Replacement Project is progressing on-schedule. In the summer of 2019, crews will be returning to the Kindersley area to start the clean-up and restoration of the pipeline right-of-way”.

In Canada, the replacement pipeline is expected to be operational by the latter half of this year. However, in Minnesota, where approximately one-third of the project exists, the in-service date is now expected in the second-half of 2020.

Despite workers being able to complete the project on the Canadian side, the delay will further inhibit the transportation of Canadian oil. Once replacement of the entire line is complete, Enbridge’s Line 3 will have the capacity of 760,000 barrels per day.
