Traveling almost anywhere in Saskatchewan usually means you are going to be on the highway for a fair amount of time. It's important to make sure that you are prepared for all situations, including emergencies where you may end up stranded. The long cold winters we face make it even more important to have our vehicles equipped for emergencies.

Here are some things you may want to have with you when traveling:

1.) A shovel in case you get stuck in deep snow and need to clear your path.

2.) A cell phone with a charger.

3.) Flashlight with extra batteries. Night times comes early in the winter so it's best to have a flashlight with extra batteries.

4.) Booster cables in case your battery dies and you need a boost.

5.) Food/water are important to carry with you on long drive as they are essential when in an emergency situation.

6.) Blankets/extra jackets to ensure warmth if you are waiting long periods of time before help arrives.

7.) First aid kit in-case any injuries where obtained.

Another safety tip is to let family or friends know that you are leaving and when you should be arriving. This way if something does go wrong during your travels, whomever is expecting you will know there may have been a problem during your trip.
