Residents who have been affected by a water main break last month in Kindersley may soon have full water service back.

Kindersley town council approved a project to replace the water main pipe on 2nd Avenue West at a special meeting of council held on Monday. The decision was made after the line broke last month due to signs of aging on the pipe.

$100,000 has been set by council as the maximum budget for the construction work on the west side of town. The project involves replacing 172 metres of the 2nd Avenue West pipe, two water hydrants and five valves.

Excavation work began yesterday on the 2nd Avenue West section between 5th Street West and 6th Street West while homeowners are switched to temporary water service. A road closure is in effect for the street as well.

The addresses affected by the construction work and who are on the temporary water service include:

  • #1 6th Street Crescent;
  • #2 6th Street Crescent;
  • #120 6th Street West;
  • #121 5th Street West; and
  • Heritage Estates

A precautionary drinking water advisory will be placed for the affected homeowners once the water service has been restored.
