The Biggar and District Arts Council is getting ready to celebrate 40 years of bringing live entertainment to their Saskatchewan community.

The Arts Council has brought artists from across Canada to entertain Biggar and surrounding residents since 1978 and has grown their season-ticket holders from 20 to 168 in the 300 seat theatre.

“Nothing beats live entertainment,” said Denise Holt, performing arts coordinator, who has been with the Arts Council for 25 years and has spent her whole life in the quaint town of Biggar. She reflected on how the performances are more than just entertainment as it brings the community together and that, “you can look at an iPad all you want and it still can’t compare.”

The Arts Council used to only bring in classical artists and have now expanded to include many different genres including blue grass and country, the latter of which has filled the most seats, proving to be the theatre-goers favourite. Holt said that broadening their horizons has also been able to introduce ticket-holders to new music that they may have not been privy to otherwise and that everyone enjoys the shows regardless if it's their favourite music or not.

The Arts Council will be honouring their 40 years with a celebration follwing their final show of the upcoming season.
