January happens to be Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, an opportunity for all Canadians to improve their awareness of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, which continues to have a significant and growing impact across Canada.

There are over 400,000 Canadians over the age of 65 that have been diagnosed with dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. It's important to become aware of what Alzheimer's disease is all about, and learning what some of the signs are to make sure you get the help that's needed.

More research is needed to learn about the causes of dementia, reduce stigma and identify the most effective ways to prevent, diagnose and treat it.

Here is a list of warning signs regarding Alzheimer's disease:

1. Memory loss that doesn't allow for day-to-Day abilities.

2. Difficulty performing regular tasks.

3. Problems with language/speaking.

4. Misplacing/losing items that are difficult to forget.

5. Loss of initiative.

These five signs are just some of the basic signs that have been proven to be related to Alzheimer's disease.
