The Wilkie Arena has been undergoing renovations since the start of summer and it's coming together nicely. The ice was put into the arena and hockey practices are already starting up. The first practice of the season was held on Tuesday, October 25th.
Graeme Donn, Recreation Director with the Town of Wilkie, spoke to West Central Online about the progress of the arena, "We had the contractor focus most of his time out in the arena there. So the arena is about 95% done but we're good to skate and everything." There is still some touch up painting and installation of ceiling fans and arena netting, but otherwise the ice plant is complete.
Donn said the curling arena should be done by the end of the week. The concession part of the arena is slated to be done near the end of January.
Wilkie's newest fundraiser for the rink will be an online auction, through Kramer Auctions. Donations of items are now being accepted up until November 7th with the auction following a week or two after. All proceeds will be put towards the SaskCan rebuild.
