Compared to the last report from the Unity, Wilkie, and Macklin RCMP detachment, January 7 to the 13th was a quieter week. A number of reports of fraud litter the report along with some more stolen vehicles and one arrest.

With the reports of fraud, residents should be reminded to never provide personal information to unverified sources. The CRA will never call asking for information, they will mail requests. Door to door survey takers, or salesman, should be able to provide multiple ways to verify that their requests are legitimate. Never provide your SIN or banking information to individuals over the phone.

During the reporting period Macklin saw a high number of vehicle thefts. With many of the stolen vehicles being found Alberta at a later date.

Highlights from the detachment reports for January 7 - 13th:

UNITY:

  • Members received a request from an individual to dispose of unwanted firearms.
  • RCMP received a complaint of a stolen car. This matter is still under investigation.
  • Police received a report of an individual going through the contents of a vehicle. This matter is still under investigation.
  • A 39-year-old male from Edmonton was charged with Refusal to Comply with Demand and Impaired Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle after a single vehicle collision near Evesham on Highway 14.
  • RCMP attended the sudden death of a 20-year-old Unity male. The death was not suspicious in nature.

WILKIE:

  • RCMP attended the sudden death of a 96-year-old female from Wilkie. The death was not suspicious in nature.
  • Member also attended the sudden death of a 70-year-old male from Wilkie. The death was not suspicious in nature.
  • Police received a complaint of a stolen truck. The truck was later located in North Battleford. This matter is still under investigation.
  • RCMP received a complaint of theft. This matter is still under investigation.

MACKLIN:

  • RCMP received a complaint of fraud. This matter is still under investigation.
  • Police are investigating a break and enter at a business and the theft of a truck. The truck was later recovered in the Kitscoty, Alberta area.
  • Members received a complaint of a break and enter at a business and the theft of two trucks. One truck was later located in Provost, Alberta. This matter is still under investigation.

Local detachments also want to remind residents to report any suspicious activity. The sooner Members are made aware of anything, the better they can respond. Local detachments will also communicate with other detachments and will make attempts to box in individuals.
