2019 Allan Cup - Lacombe, Alberta
The Lacombe Generals are the 2019 Allan Cup champions.
The annual senior AAA hockey tournament came to a close on Saturday night with the Generals winning the final 5 - 2 over the Innisfail Eagles. This is the4th time the Generals have won the championship in its 111 years as the Canadian Mens Triple A Hockey Championships.
The Rosetown Redwings lost out of the tournament in the semi-finals versus the Generals, where the Redwings fell short 3 - 1.
Forward and Captain for the Redwings, Jordie Johnston and Defenceman Jordan Fransoo were both named Allan Cup All Stars.
This year's tournament, which began on April 8th, was hosted at the Gary Moe Autogroup Sportsplex in Lacombe, Alberta.
2019 Players' Championship at the Grand Slam of Curling
Biggar's Robyn Silvernagle was in this year's 2019 Players' Championship at the Grand Slam of Curling.
Silvernagle's Rink had a 4 - 1 record heading into the playoffs. They defeated Chelsea Carey in the quarterfinals but lost to Team Einarson.
Team Einarson from Manitoba and Team Hasselborg from Sweden met in the championship final, with Einarson taking the win and tournament title.
In the men's division, it was two Alberta teams facing off in the championship final. Team Bottcher earned the win, taking down Team Koe.
Canalta Cup - SJHL
The Melfort Mustangs and Battlefords North Stars are tied up at one game a piece in the SJHL's Canalta Cup Finals.
Game 1 on Friday ended in a 6 - 2 win for the Stars; then on Saturday, the Mustangs won 1 - 0 in Game 2.
The North Stars and Mustangs have a break today but return to the ice tomorrow as the series shifts to Melfort for Game 3.
Over the weekend, the Toronto Blue Jays picked up 1 win at home against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Yesterday's series finale ended in an 8 - 4 win for the Rays.
