Friday night's game between the Biggar Nationals and the Kindersley Red Lions may have been the best game you will see all season long in the Sask West Hockey League.

When two teams right in the middle part of the standings play one another, you're more than likely to see a good showdown. This was also the first match-up of the season between these two clubs, making for an exciting game.

Within the first minute of the hockey game, the Kindersley Red Lions found the back of the net twice to take a 2-0 lead. Just 21 seconds into the game, it was Shayne Neigum of the Red Lions making no mistake as he got his team an early lead. Just 24 seconds later, the Red Lions made it 2-0 when Djay McGrath scored off of a brilliant pass from Jonny Calkins.

The scoring continued to pour out in the first period when Biggar cut the lead in half, but it was soon taken away when the Red Lions put two more goals up on the board to extend their lead to 4-1. The Nationals answered late in the first period to make it a 4-2 lead for the Red Lions.

The Kindersley Red Lions scored within the first minute of the second period when they were given an opportunity on the power-play when Jonny Calkins knocked in a rebound to make it 5-2. This would end up being the wake up call the Nationals were desperately looking for.

Biggar erased the 5-2 deficit and tied the game up 5-5 within a six minute time period when Josh Shatford of the Nationals scored back-to-back goals on the power-play. Kindersley's starting goaltender Luke Sproule was forced to leave the game due to an injury in the second period, and was replaced by Travis Vogel.

The Red Lions and Nationals continued to battle back and forth by exchanging goals with one another until the horn sounded to end regulation tied 8-8. The Nationals capitalized on their opportunity when Shatford walked in and found the back of the net to finalize a 9-8 victory for the Nationals over the Red Lions.

Biggar went 6-for-9 on the power-play in this game, which tells the story of the game. Shatford completed his hatrick for his team to finish off a three goal performance, while players like Dan Baum, Justin Edin and Curtis Piecowye each had 4 point nights.

Kindersley had opportunities to win this game, but allowed penalties to hurt them in certain situations. Nonetheless, their starting goaltender was taken out of the game unexpectedly and were still able to earn a point in the standings.

If there had to be a game voted for "Game of the Year", this game would certainly be the one.
