The Rosetown Fire Department responded to a 911 call about a fire across the highway from Zealandia at approximately 12 pm on Sunday May 8th. The fire crew encountered a grass fire that grew to be around 20 acres. Fire Chief Dennis Ogg sent 2 engines and 1 truck to deal with the blaze. The crew got the fire under control about 2 hours later. Dennis also mentioned that although no formal investigation has been done, he was sure it was probably some careless person that stopped on the side of the highway for a smoke and carelessly tossed their smoke into the grass. He was completely dumbfounded that with all the current events taking place in Fort McMurray someone could be so careless.
