Two of the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League’s southernmost teams will meet tonight. The Kindersley Stallions (5-1) host the Wilkie Brewers (3-1) at 7:30 tonight from Berard Field in Kindersley.

The Brewers sat last NSRBL season out while the league still managed to complete a shortened campaign, that saw a new contending team emerge from further down south in the Stallions.

Though they are closer to the competition; Unity, Macklin, and of course Wilkie have committed to playing up north for years, giving the Stallions some closer proximity rivals in their new home league that makes it well worth the extra travel.

“The travel is definitely not ideal, but when you get to go up there and play some good ball games it makes it worth it every time.” said Stallions manager Austin Jamieson.

The first edition of the Brewers-Stallions rivalry will go tonight, and Wilkie is coming off an impressive victory against the Standard Hill Lakers. Kindersley’s only loss of the season so far came against Standard Hill last Sunday 7-6 in extra innings, setting up what should be a good match-up tonight with the reinvigorated Brewers squad.

“Wilkie’s got a pretty good team this year. Sounds like they have a few guys from Unity that will help out their lineup.” said Jamieson previewing the opposition.

The Stallions began their season playing 4/5 games on the road, setting up some nice home competition for the back half of their season after the start of their schedule was a bit soft.

“We have basically our last 5 games, 4 of those are against top 5 teams in the league. There is going to be a lot of good ball coming down the pipe here.”

Tonight’s game at Berard Field is the second of the week in Kindersley. They only play one game next week on the road against the Lloydminister Twins, before setting fans up for some Tuesday/Thursday action at home against the Macklin Lakers, and North Battleford Beavers respectively.
