Some history was made for the Delisle Chiefs during their past weekend on the road, as despite two losses, the team left the weekend in good spirits as their captain Chad Westman made some history by setting a new all-time record for games played for Delisle. Chiefs alumni Trevor Atamanenko had the previous record for most games played at 169, and Westman, who has been with the team 2016-2017, finally passed him as the team continues their regular season.

The record would have been broken sooner, and no doubt expanded upon had it not been for the cancellation of large chunk of the last two seasons. Westman was set to be a PJHL all-star this year with that also being lost due to COVID, but the Plenty native likely wouldn’t trade his career path for anything.

Westman’s team came out strong on the weekend, only to take a tight overtime loss 5-4 against Fort Knox. He managed 1 goal and 1 assist in the game alongside Kyle Heintz’s 3 point effort, but the team could not steal the win into overtime. The next night out against Pilot Butte, Westman had an assist on the Chiefs only goal of the game courtesy of Kai Joorisity as they lost 4-1.

Three games remain in the month of January for Delisle as they will take on the Prince Albert Titans tomorrow night at home, the Saskatoon Westleys on the road Friday, and then the Saskatoon Royals come to town on Saturday for a 7:30 puck drop that will close out the month. From there the Chiefs will have 8 more games in February as their playoff destiny is decided.

Expect more on the Chiefs over the next month as they continue their season, and look to push into the playoffs with their veteran team.
