Kindersley recently hosted the Red Lion Inn 34th Annual Western Canadian Oldtimers and Senior Men’s Baseball Championships on the weekend. The tournament began on July 19 and held their finals on July 21.

The championships had two divisions, one being the 19+ division and the other as the 43+ division. Each division was split into Pool A and Pool B.

Derek Semple, the main organizer of the event, said the weekend was a success, “The rain hurt us a little bit and set us back, but everything went really well. The teams were really good, and the umpires were really good at switching things around.” He added that there was a good group of spectators for the tournament.

Semple said that, due to the rain, changes had to be made, “We turned the Friday games into five innings instead of seven, the Saturday games were also changed to six innings instead of seven, but the finals on Sunday were all seven inning games.”

The Western Canadian Oldtimers and Senior Men’s Baseball Championships are annually held in Kindersley, Semple said that the town makes for a perfect place to host the championships, “Its really treated as a family event. There are things for the wives, we have a pool, camping is right around the diamonds, the hotels are very close, and it just makes for a great place.”

Semple said that the championships have had teams coming to support the tournament for over 25 years.

For the 19+ A final winners, the Llyodminister Border City Jays took the championship with score of 18 over the Red Deer Northstars who only took 5.

As for the 19+ B finals, the Kindersley Stallions took the win over the Saskatoon Sluggers with a 10 to 0 score.

In the 19+ C finals, the Oyen Eagles won with a score of 8 to 0 against the Kindersley Raiders.
