The number of West Nile Virus cases has dropped in Saskatchewan.

After seeing more than 1,400 cases and four deaths caused by West Nile Virus last summer, only 17 human cases have been reported in the province this year. Only one of them in the Heartland Health Region.

The main reason for the low numbers was that the cool weather in the spring and July delayed the mosquitos. Higher public awareness of the virus also led to the lack of West Nile cases.
