The U18 AA West Central Wheat Kings played in, and won their first playoff game yesterday against the Saskatoon Riverkings. Game 2 is set for Saturday in Unity, in what is a first round best of five.

The Wheat Kings traveled to Saskatoon for the series opener, and a slow start turned into a fast and furious finish ending up in a 5-4 Wheat Kings win at the Gordie Howe Arena.

It was 1-0 Wheat Kings following the first period, before Saskatoon tied it halfway through the second. A chippy affair did see both sides trade penalties throughout the first half of the game, and then things really broke out in the last period of play as West Central went up 4-2, only to allow the Riverkings to come back and send the game into overtime. West Central was given a powerplay headed into the extra frame, and used it to their advantage as Hunter Sperle ended things with the man-advantage to give his team the win.
