Volunteer firefighters have been given some extra responsibility from the Provincial government starting in 2009.

Currently, all volunteer firefighters vehicles are required to follow all traffic laws when responding to a call. The new laws says now use flashing red lights and sirens and also drive contrary to the rules of the road when responding to an emergency.

The firefighters will have to take a professional driving course through the National Fire Protection Agency.

Currently, there are twenty-three volunteer firefighters on staff in Kindersley.
