The Kerrobert Courtroom Gallery closed out last calendar year with a beautiful Christmas display and yet another showcase of a local’s talent, only to reload for the new year with the new exhibit “Homemade”.

The courtroom gallery’s show that began on January 12th and will run until the end of the month, featuring a collection of colourful quilts hand-made by the latest west central artist being featured in Leanne Kohlman out of Tramping Lake. The gallery welcomes everyone to come and view some beautiful art while at the same time recognizing Kohlman’s passion for quilting.

Visiting hours for the venue are Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:40 pm; with a note they are closed at noon. Kerrobert Courtroom Gallery Chairperson Tracey Cholin shared some more details.

“I’m thinking there are about 20-25 quilts on display right now,” Cholin began, who gave a note about the prolific, but busy quilter, “She lives near Tramping Lake and farms with her husband, and also has a U-pick-it flower garden in the summer. Not quite sure how she gets everything done.”

Cholin complimented Kohlman’s great eye for colour and design, noting some of her different designs being more traditional like block pieced quilts, among other designs.

“Some are very different styles called paper piecing, where they are a little more modern. All kinds of things. Like I said she has a great eye.”

Kohlman’s quilts would have been on display much earlier at the gallery if it hadn’t been for pandemic restrictions, though the previous show from two years ago is now being brought back this time around with a good amount of newly made creations for people to see.

The gallery is open along with the town office, and the last chance to visit the current exhibit is February 28th. Some great viewing content always seems to be present thanks to the capable and artful volunteers in Kerrobert, seeking out some of the best talents west central has to offer.
