The U18 AA West Central Wheat Kings are continuing to have a busy offseason.

Yesterday on their Facebook page they announced that tryouts would take place from September 9th to the 11th, and it's noted that registration is open until September 1st.

The team also had another great piece of news:

Coach Pat Sperle will be back as he looks to guide the team to another successful playoff run, though it will be with a nearly completely different roster compared to the one that ran the table in playoffs to win the Centre Four division as the last seed the year prior.

"I enjoyed last year. I had a good time and it was a good group, thought we'd try it again," said Sperle, "Obviously going to be tough to get back to the success we had last year in playoffs. We have a lot of players who are not returning, so we have a lot of spots left to fill especially on the forward side. There's a lot of key players that left, so we will have to replace them one way or another."

Two of the key graduating players leaving are team captain Leighton Partington, and leading scorer Hunter Sperle. Earlier this month, the team was finally able to announce their next move in hockey.

Sperle had some great things to say about the pair of players moving on, though they are just two of many that are moving up after a strong season last year.

"Both of them will be going to the KIJHL to play with the Nelson Leafs, so we wish them all the best," he said, "It's nice to see people from our team moving on. Junior A in BC, junior in Saskatoon, and then multiple players going on to AAA in the province. Nice to see that kids are moving on. You could say it's almost a negative success because everyone got picked up around different locations. There are kids from last year all over."
