The RCMP’s Major Crime Unit South is investigating a suspicious death reported to police on June 1st, after an incident late last month at a senior's care facility in Yorkton.

The RCMP were called in to investigate after being contacted by the Saskatchewan Coroners Service. The investigation by the RCMP detailed that an altercation between two residents at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home took place on May 27th.

A staff member heard the incident in a resident’s room, and when entering the room to see what was happening, found a 91-year-old man injured. He was then taken to hospital but passed away from his injuries on May 30th.

The investigation is still underway, and no arrests have been made at this time. Investigators do not believe there is a risk to public safety and do not anticipate updates in the immediate days or weeks.
