I have had two very direct experiences with STARS in my life. Once when our family was returning from a ski trip in BC, we were on a mountain road when the vehicle in-front of us lost control on some ice and sadly drifted into the other lane. The vehicle collided head-on with a semi. The resulting scene can only be described as disastrous. As first on the scene we did everything we could to help, which included calling 9-1-1.

As time played out, it was looking increasingly bleak. Almost a dozen of us did whatever we could to get the doors open on the vehicle... all in hope that when STARS arrived, those inside might have a chance.

I honestly can't describe the feeling that rushed over myself when that big red helicopter ripped by to survey the scene. It represented a chance at a better outcome over the bleak situation.

STARS was crucial to saving a life that day on a remote mountain road. Just like it's crucial to saving lives in rural Saskatchewan everyday. To operate the organization consistently needs to raise crucial funds, and as of today their 2021 STARS Home Lottery is once again underway. There are a ton of great prizes, including the two show homes, that are up for grabs. And they're popular 50/50 is back. Senior Communications Officer Mark Oddan does a better job of explaining then me.

All the funds raised through the lottery will go towards the crucial air service. On any given day STARS completes, on average, 8 missions. Flight Nurse Darren Entner is just one of the world class crew that is always ready to go at a moments notice.

You can get tickets now for the lottery by visiting http://starslottery.ca/ or give them a call 1-844-STARS-SK. If you get your tickets before June 24, you'll be able to get in on the earl-bird package. 'The Ultimate Outdoor Adventure Package, featuring a truck, trailer, toys and $100K cash – worth $339,000'
