The Kindersley Stallions were unable to complete their 7th inning comeback last night in North Saskatchewan River Baseball League action, dropping an 8-7 decision to the Border City Blue Jays.

Blake Robertson got the start on the mound for the Stallions as well as an early lead from his team, but was unable to parlay it into any success as the Blue Jays wore Robertson down and managed to hold on for the victory despite a late Kindersley rally.

There was some great defense being flashed all around the diamond from both teams on the night. The batters box was home to a few highlights as well with a few doubles ripped to the fence, and one actually being put over by Stallions infielder Dylan Flasch. The solo homer brought the Stallions to within one after a few runs were already scored during their rally, but they were unable to keep the magic alive after a soft ground out ended the game.

Even though the night ended in a loss, it was still a memorable one for those who showed up at the ballpark to celebrate Nickelback night. Certain members of the Stallions have a certain affinity for the rock band out of Hanna, Alberta, and last night’s game marked another annual edition of the teams dedicated night.

The Stallions shouldn’t be ready to Burn it to the Ground as they enter playoffs with a 7-4 record, good enough for what will result in 4th or 5th place finish in the league. As expected the Rockstar talent in the Stallions rotation has helped carry the horses, though the team’s bats will look to heat up and Feed The Machine come playoffs. The team came out swinging like Animals scoring 7 times in last night’s loss, representing a nice change from the low scoring affairs saw during their only losing streak this season. A Photograph of the league table shows that last nights match-up was a likely first round playoff preview, leaving the Stallions to ask themselves “If Today Was Your Last Day”, where they would be in the playoff picture.

The Nickelback references end now as the NSRBL playoffs begin Friday, with a pair of single game eliminations that will be decided after tonight’s action to cap off the regular season. Border City can clinch home-field in the first round against Kindersley with a win against the Battlefords Trappers.
