The Springwater Community Hall has a strong community spirit to thank for recent renovations.

Back in April we wrote about the Hall still seeking donations, and now as we approach the end of summer the work they had planned for their roof is complete and it was in big part thanks to members of the community, past and present.

Jim Rawles is from Springwater and talked about the fundraising process.

"Fundraising went great. We had personal donations, corporate ones. We did the whole $12,000 since the end of February when we started it. It went just great." he said as the work was completed at the beginning of July.

Rawles started a GoFundMe when the work was first started in February. It was shared to the Springwater Memories Facebook page, and caught fire from there.

"There is a lot of ex-Springwaterians who don't live here anymore, but who still think of Springwater as their home. We got quite a few (donations) at the beginning from people who used to live here and don't anymore, which I thought was great. All the rest was local people from the community, local business."

Donations for the hall didn't stop at the roof. Even though they passed their goal, Rawles is happy to see interest still high for helping support the Hall. It's a busy place with a service set for the first week of August, and all of the regular stuff they do over the calendar year.

"There will be the ski-doo rally in the spring. July 1st party, Christmas party, all that throughout the year," shared Rawles, who also mentioned they are looking at bringing a ball tournament to the community.

The possibility for a local market exists, and the ideas should only sprout from there. That's where some of the extra funds could come in to play as they look to improve the area at large.

"We could use a little bit of work on the inside. One of the bathrooms could use some work, and that's the next step," said Rawles as some of the infrastructure is just plain old. "The siding is starting to deteriorate. It could be replaced."

Big stuff always seems to be coming out of the small community of Springwater, situated between Kerrobert and Biggar on Highway 51.
