With seeding season not too far off West Central Online caught up with Regional Crop Specialist John Ippolito to discuss soil moisture levels. John stated most fields in West Central Saskatchewan are at about 18-24 inches of sub soil moisture currently. That equates to about 3-4 inches of stored moisture. He stated it should be good enough to get the crops off to a good start, provided we don't lose too much moisture between now and seeding.

Soil temperatures are around 4 degrees celcius now, and Ippolito went on to say no major seeding will occur until the soil temperature reaches on average around 5 degrees celcius.
