Town administration in Kindersley is reminding residents to keep a few helpful tips in mind as the snow continues to fall.

Crews will begin removing snow and dropping sand as it accumulates on the streets, and residents will need to make sure the roads are clear for the workers. The Kindersley town website will assure residents are aware when crews are scheduled to work on clearing and sanding the roads.

Residents are being asked to avoid parking their vehicles on the street, if at all possible, when crews are scheduled to work on clearing snow. Roads which drivers find are extremely icy should be reported to town administration online or by calling 306-463-2675, and more sand can be applied.

Snow removal for Highways 7 and 21 are out of the town's jurisdiction and is the responsibility of the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways.

Also, crews are asking for residents to assure the areas surrounding their property are clear when it comes time to remove accumulated snow off the streets. "Make sure their back alleys are clear and take out anything that is back there," explained Daryl Olson, Senior Municipal Enforcement Officer for Kindersley. "I've noticed some people put some cement in the back alleys, and when the grader comes along in the wintertime, that gets pushed aside and smashes into fencing."

Another problem residents face during the winter months are animals finding shelter within their homes or areas in their backyards. "They should not store bags of leaves or anything around because that's a good place for heat," said Olson. "They'll find that a lot of mice, snakes, rats will find that including muskrats at this time of year."

Olson added how animals will look for other spots in backyards to keep warm such as wood piles, uncovered vehicles, etc.
