During the holidays, SGI, with the help of police officers across Saskatchewan, ramped up its enforcement efforts.

Saskatchewan police services conducted more check stops this last December than they had ever before, and the results were overwhelming as the majority of drivers who passed through the check stop were sober.

Whereas most drivers were sober, others were driving impaired. Police reported 361 impaired driving offences, 275 of which were Criminal Code charges.

SGI reported a total of:

  • 418 distracted driving tickets (346 of which were for cellphone use)
  • 2,975 tickets for aggressive driving and speeding
  • 177 tickets issued for incorrect usage of seatbelts and child restraints or not using them at all

January sees SGI focusing on intersection safety in this month's Traffic Safety Spotlight.
