While gas prices soar across Saskatchewan, Premier Scott Moe announced last week that the province is not actively looking to end or reduce its tax on gas.

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney recently announced that they will temporarily stop the collection of the provincial fuel tax starting on April 1.

Moe said that Alberta is much more reliant on the oil price than we are in Saskatchewan.

“We have a much more diversified natural resource-based economy. We have uranium, Alberta does not have uranium,” Moe said. “We have a larger agriculture sector, we have a potash sector.”

Although he didn’t commit to ending the provincial fuel taxes, he said that nothing is off the table.

“We're having these discussions now. I'm not going to say that anything is off the table, but if there is an opportunity for us to provide some supports to Saskatchewan people while understanding the provincial deficit needs to be addressed.”

Saskatchewan’s fuel tax rate is 15 cents per litre on gas and diesel fuel.

The NDP has called on the government to implement a gas relief program.
