The Saskatchewan Roughriders won their first pre-season game since June 2014 on Saturday at home against the BC Lions, ending a nearly decade-long stretch that included a tie and a 37-1 result in the loss column.

Saskatchewan came back to beat the visiting Lions 30-27 in the first action of the season from Mosaic Stadium. No scoring in the first quarter might have led some people to tune out, but a back and forth game the rest of the way out rewarded those who stayed watching the CFL's online feed.

Three other pre-season games took place on the weekend. On Friday night the Montreal Allouettes escaped Ottawa with a 22-21 victory over the Redblacks. Other action on Saturday saw Winnipeg successfully hunt the the Elks in Edmonton by a score of 25-23, and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and their new quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell beat the Toronto Argonauts 27-22.

The Roughriders next pre-season game has them back in action on Friday in Winnipeg.
