A new virtual course called Understanding Grief and Loss was put on earlier this week on SK Hope Learning Centre. It's carried out through the online service by west-central Saskatchewan's own Carmen Ledding, who is the program director for the Canadian Mental Health Association in Rosetown, and overall mental health advocate for the area.

The program has been running two sessions over two weeks throughout the year. The most recent session began on Thursday, December 7, with another one coming up on December 14. Anyone who missed out can learn more from Ledding herself after an appearance with the SK Hope Learning Centre on Facebook.

The objectives of the course are too define grief and loss, describe the stages of grief, demonstrate an increased ability to support our loved one(s), increase our awareness and understanding of non-death/living loss grief. Find the complete course-load here.

Split in two parts, session one helps detail the facts about loss and grief, defining the term, and going through the theories and stages associated with those feelings. Session two finishes up the conversation speaking on things like the symptoms of grief, grieving a loss to addiction, dealing with suicide loss, complicated grief, and non-death grief, with a closing segment on how this course and the SK Hope Learning Centre in general can help.

After the mid-December courses, the next virtual sessions will not be until March 27 and April 3.
